All Ford Drag Racing Returns To Texas

ProMedia and Houston Raceway Park are happy to announce the return of All Ford Drag Racing to Texas the weekend of November 13-15, at Houston Raceway Park. The Inaugural Lone Star Shootout will help fill the void for Ford Drag Racing enthusiasts who have yet to see an all-Ford event this year in the Lone Star State.
The Angel family, owners of Houston Raceway Park, and officials of the NMRA Keystone Automotive Ford Nationals Series recently agreed to host this special post-season exhibition race, bringing Ford drag racing back to a hotbed for heads-up doorslammer action.
Charlie Harmon, President/Executive Director of the NMRA said, "It became obvious that there was a tremendous void in the Ford marketplace for this region of the country. We are very proud to be in a position in these times of economic hardship to expand and do our part to fill that void for all of the Ford enthusiasts in this region. However, this could not have been possible without the support and cooperation of the Angel family, who also recognized the need to continue to offer a first class Ford event to all of the loyal enthusiast and supporters in the area."
Evan Smith, editor of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords Magazine, hopes the Lone Star Shootout will become a sister event of the Spring Break Shootout held each year in Bradenton, Florida which draws top Ford and Mustang street cars from all over the eastern United States. “We are aware that there are many others in the western region of the U.S. that are unable to make the long haul to Florida due to the distance. We are very excited about the opportunity to feature a class that is accessible to a new and amazing group of vehicles in a different part of the country,” Smith stated.

Jarrett Halfacre cleared for a return to competition

Jarrett Halfacre, who had his NMRA/NMCA competition privileges revoked for a period of two years after an incident at Atco Raceway in Atco, New Jersey last August, has successfully appealed his two-year suspension. In a letter to Halfacre, the NMRA Appeals Panel stated: “After a full and comprehensive review by the NMRA Appeals Panel, your request for a reduced suspension has been found acceptable. In accepting this appeal, the terms from the Statement of Action shall be reduced from a two-year suspension to a one-year suspension.”
As a result of the reduced sanction, Halfacre will be eligible to compete at any NMRA or NMCA event beginning August 9, 2009. The letter explained that Halfacres return to racing was conditional and that any car he intends on racing, must first pass, “a line-by-line 2009 NMRA rule book inspection for the class you wish to compete in before being permitted to make a qualifying run.” Halfacre will also face a one-year technical probation, commencing on the first day of his return to racing and successful completion of a teardown inspection. Any technical violation during this probation period could result in additional penalties including further suspension of competition privileges or monetary fines.
With the suspension expiring on an event weekend, NMRA/NMCA officials stated that Halfacre is authorized to compete in the Charlotte event, provided his car passes technical inspection.

The 4th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing will be bigger and better than ever for 2009. This special event will once again take place at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL, the weekend of July 16-19 and will feature all the cars and all the stars of the NMRA Keystone Automotive series and the NMCA Edelbrock series. Come see NMRA stars like Mike Murillo, John Urist, Bob Kurgan, Dan Rawls, and Robbie Blankenship go wheels-up with NMCA stars like Vinny Budano, Spiro Pappas, Jim Blair and Dan Millen. New for 2009...Team NMRA vs. Team NMCA in the Nitto Tire Race for the Rings on Sunday. Winner take all! Yes, that's right, if Team NMRA wins then every NMRA finalist will get a Nitto Tire Diamond Tree champions ring!

'09 NMRA World Finals to Host King of the Street Competition

Does your Mustang put down over 750hp to the wheels? Maybe your Mustang makes that number by 5,000 rpm, but does it possess grocery-getter drivability? Can it run nines on Nitto NT555R Extreme Drag radials? No one has done that, yet. Is the car capable of making a lunch run to the nearest, or farthest BBQ joint in air-conditioned comfort? Is your Mustang equally at home in the car show area as it is on the street or track? Is it capable of competing in 5.0 Mustang & Super Ford magazine’s King of the Street competition? If you read these questions answering a resounding “yes” to every one, now’s your chance to prove it.
King of the Street is a spirited, yet fun competition to pick the most powerful Mustang, and to see which Mustang can put down the most power to the chassis dyno rollers and still maintain streetable civility. That means you get positive grades for an instant cold start, a stable idle, working A/C, and a booming stereo, while we deduct grades for manual steering, a non-overdrive tranny, a spool, and other race hardware. We are looking for the most streetable, most powerful Mustang in the country.
How do you throw your Mustang into the hat? The first step is putting together an application package. 5.0&SF wants to see a few photos of the car, including the engine, as well as a list of the car’s modifications and accomplishments (dyno sheets, timeslips, etc.). From those stacks of cars, 5.0&SF will narrow it down to 10 or so lucky contestants to square off on the same day on the same chassis dyno. 5.0&SF staff members critique your Mustang to see how well it measures up to KOTS standards. Then you’ll see if Associate Editor Mike “The Splitter” Johnson can hit every gear behind the wheel of your Mustang, and hope he doesn’t run over anything in the process.
Still not scared? Well, get those packages or emails together in a hurry. 5.0&SF needs your application by August 28th, so you will have sufficient notice to make your travel plans. Plus, that date gives KOTS sponsor Nitto Tire time to send you a pair of its NT555R Extreme Drag radials in the size of your choice.
